Busy Bee

Today a new post.  Pretty unusual really.  Good to do though.  I have been very busy with my blue stash.

Also, after reading many posts regarding what could be found at Big W, I went on a FQ hunt and here's what I found, in Mirrabooka.

This made me feel very happy.  Perhaps I should trawl all the Big W stores in the State!  Hmm...perhaps not.
One more thing.  I found a bag of fabric that I've been saving for a quilt that I will never finish and on a whim thought "I wonder if there is any Low Volume fabric in that lot?"
There was.

UFOs This is a BIG story!!

Well, I nipped about in my sewing room and took some random photos of stuff that I have not yet finished.  Turns out the photos are all of projects that I still like.  And must finish.  This is easier to say than do.  Of course I will finish them all - by next Thursday week preferably!

This is my most CURRENT UFO.  I started it two days ago, knowing that I had many other quilts to finish.  Naughty me.  I just love this Woodlands fabric.  Had to have it and had to make a quilt with it.

These gorgeous cats came from Keepsake Quilting.  I've had them forever.  I love redwork and I love cats.  I don't know what I will do with these blocks (there are 4) when I have finished them.

My QAYG UFO.  This is a lot of hand sewing and I find I cannot sit and do too many at once.  I am getting there though.  Slowly and with perserverence.  Ooh, that's not a good word is it?  Am I enjoying this? 

Broken China (dresden plate) in 1930s fabrics.  I love this.  Having said that, I haven't worked on it for ages.  Must do some more soon.  :)

This is 5 Little Ducks by Chitter Chatter Designs.  I am making this one for baby James.  It's needleturn applique, which I get a great deal of satisfaction in doing.  I love ducks.  There are about four quilts out in the ether with ducks on that bear  my signature   All gone to good homes. 
There are one or two more but I will add those maybe tomorrow. 

Miss E and her 3rd birthday

The party was yesterday in a park.  It was in the end a very rushed set up, yet the table looked lovely and bright with lots of pink and purple.

This is what I have been doing today.  Cutting and sewing the pennants for the bunting for E's birthday which is next weekend.  She loves purple.   I still have some to cut from these fabrics.

Joshua's Duck Quilt

This has been a year in the making and here it is, at last!  Joshie's Duck Quilt.  I did all the quilting on my domestic machine, and with some guidance from the wonderful Leah Day.  It is the first time I have attempted to do my own quilting, and I am very happy with the results.  The quilt is a design by Luixin Newman, The Thimblelady.  It is very exciting to have finished it.  I am now working on another duck quilt for James, who was born two weeks ago.  I expect he will receive the quilt around his first birthday too. :)

And of course I had an assistant.  My beautiful, one eyed, devon rex cat called Gizmo. 

He and his sister Pixie Possum are a regular part of the routine in my sewing room.  All the fabric is really theirs, and any quilts I make are for them to stretch and purr and sleep upon.  They do run the household, and right now I am being ordered, by way of very loud talking meows, to go upstairs and feed them.

After lots of messing about, I can finally (I think) upload some photos!  Today is Sunday and I have spent some of the time creating three nine patch blocks.  They are part of a "test" quilt that I am making as I follow the excellent Leah Day and her "how to" of cutting and piecing.  I have never been tauught these basics, and I wanted to see the difference between my haphazard way of cutting, and Leah's way of precision.  It goes without saying that there is no contest here.  Leah knows what she is talking about and I realise that even though it may take a bit longer at this stage, there is great benefit in taking the time to do the extra steps.  Check out her website if you are interested.  I love it.
